APCA Safety Zone - Tools for the Workplace

Today, OSHA is unveiling a public review draft of our updated Safety and Health Program Management Guidelines. This document has been years in the making and represents our best thinking and experiences from employers that have successfully adopted safety and health management systems (SHMS) focused on identifying, assessing, preventing, and controlling workplace hazards. These guidelines will help small- and medium-sized employers find and fix hazards before workers are injured, become ill, or are killed. Engaging more employers in injury and illness prevention – which is at the heart of these guidelines – has the potential for shifting the curve on safety culture in America.   In order to make the guidelines as effective and useful as possible, we are asking stakeholders and experts to send us their comments about the guidelines. The guidelines and a link to the open docket to which comments can be submitted are at: www.osha.gov/shpmguidelines. I’d be grateful if you would share this note with your colleagues who have an interest in this important subject.   In addition, the guidelines will be a focus of a meeting on Worker Health and Safety in a Changing Workforce, which will be held on Wednesday, December 9th, 2015 from 2:15 PM to 4:15 PM at the Bureau of Labor Statistics, 2 Massachusetts Ave, NE Washington D.C. 20002. I encourage you to register immediately since space is very limited.  To register, go to: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/worker-health-and-safety-meeting-future-of-work-symposium-registration-19473562951.    Thank you for your help getting the word out on our new guidelines.   David Michaels, PhD, MPH  Assistant Secretary  Occupational Safety and Health Administration  United States Department of Labor  200 Constitution Avenue, NW, Room S2315  Washington, DC 20210  202-693-2000  202-693-1659 (fax)
